In preparations for the October 16, 2017 municipal election, prospective candidates are reminded of the requirement for registration of candidates as outlined in Section 147.21 of the Local Authorities Election Act, which came into force on January 1, 2014.
Section 147.21(1) of the Local Authorities Election Act states:
“No candidate may accept campaign contributions, including the funds of the
candidate, unless the candidate is registered under this Act with the municipality in which the candidate intends to run”.
All candidates intending to fund-raise must register with the City of Camrose prior to collecting your first contribution. The Application for “Registration of Notice of Intent to Become a Candidate for Municipal Office” (Form 3A) is available on the Municipal Affairs website.
Section 147.21(2) requires municipalities to maintain a register of candidates in relation to the election. When there is any change in the information provided by a candidate, the candidate is responsible for notifying the municipality within 48 hours of the change and the municipality will adjust the register accordingly (Section 147.21(3) of the LAEA). The information contained within the registry is public.
