Please do not feed the swans, and use caution in any areas near them. They have recently been released from their winter home, are still adjusting to their environment, and can become very protective of their area. Mating season continues until the end of June and they can become even more aggressive during this time.Though feeding the swans has become a family activity in Camrose, for safety reasons please enjoy them from a distance and let them feed on aquatic plants in their natural setting. If people do continue to feed them, we ask that they are fed fresh bread, grain such as wheat or corn and fresh greens such as lettuce or spinach since these items are the least disruptive to their digestive systems. The food should be thrown on to the water so that they can swallow water with the food – feeding them on land encourages them to leave the water whenever they see people which can bring harm to them from cars, dogs, etc. Please ensure that all safety precautions are taken when near the swans or water bodies in Camrose.
