Manager of Corporate and Protective Services - Responsibilities

Legislative Responsibilities with City Council

With the assistance of our Administrative Assistant I have duties that include coordination and responsibility for Council Agendas and meeting schedules and the recording of Council minutes. Legislative advice is provided, by-law drafting and revisions as required and signing authority for agreements/contracts are part of the duties. Other duties as required included responsibility for the municipal census and returning officer for municipal elections.

Working Closely with Emergency Services

These duties and functions include assisting the Camrose EMS Manager and the Camrose Fire Chief. Damian's background and training, including Emergency Scene Management, Disaster & Emergency Planning, experience as former manager of the Camrose 9-1-1 Centre and Administrative experience allow for a well rounded approach to assist our emergency services, the City Manager, and the citizens of our community.

Human Resources

Damian has overall responsibility for the City's Human Resources function and this includes assisting the Department Managers with recruitment and selection. Personnel policy development, compensation and benefit plan reviews are all conducted on a regular basis.

Labor Relations

Damian shares responsibilites with the City Manager and Department Managers in Labor Relations matters including negotiating collective agreements with those City employees who belong to a union or association including CUPE Local #1425, CUPE Local #3671 and the Camrose Police Association.

FOIP Coordinator

Damian is the designated Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Manager for the City of Camrose. The City of Camrose ensures that personal information is collected and protected in accordance with the legislation. FOIP legislation can be viewed at http://www3.gov.ab.ca/foip/

Public Complaint Director

The Police Act requires that each Police Commission appoint a Public Complaint Director (PCD). In 2005 the Camrose Police Commission designated Damian as the PCD pursuant to the legislation.
