48 Avenue Widening
and Overlay
Mount Pleasant Drive Left
Turn Bay
Partially Funded by:

Project Profile
There are four major objectives of this project;
- Shift West Bound lanes to the North to make enough room to install a
left turn lane at Mount Pleasant Drive for West to South bound traffic,
- Construct a business access lane on the North side adjacent to the
O'Riordon property to provide efficient access to and from commercial
developments proposed for the area,
- Widen the existing Westbound highway lanes to 3.75m (the Canadian
Standard), and
- Overlay the existing East and West bound lanes to reduce rutting and
extend pavement life.
This project completes another phase of the Camrose Highway
Upgrade Project, which is a long term multi-phase endeavor to upgrade safety for
both pedestrians and vehicles, as well as extend pavement life throughout the
length of Highway 13.

Project description
This project provides roadway and sidewalk improvements from 57 Street to 60
Street, although the asphalt overlay may extend outside these limits depending
on final project expenditures and pavement condition.
- This project includes widening the westbound highway lanes to 3.75 metre
width (Canadian Standard), relocating and widening the sidewalk providing
more separation between the highway traffic and the walkway, creating a
safer and more pleasant pedestrian environment. (We plan to wind the
sidewalk between the two road of trees in the reserve are to provide a
pleasant walking environment and to avoid removing the trees.
-
Extending the West Bound
service lane to provide access to proposed development on the O’Riordon
property, east of 58Street.
-
Create a left turn bay for
west to south bound traffic, from 48 Avenue to Mt. Pleasant Drive. (Note
that this service lane will be relatively short with only 3-4 vehicle
storage, because there is only a short distance between Mount Pleasant Drive
and 58 Street.
-
Relocate street lighting
from the center median (where it is currently a hazard because of the very
narrow median width) to the north and south side of the highway, and place
an asphalt overlay for east and westbound lanes to strengthen the pavement
structure and extend the life of the roadway.
-
Replace Street Lightning
which is currently on the center median with new Street Lights on the North
and South edges of the Roadway.
-
Upgrade the traffic Signals
on the North Side at the Mount Pleasant Intersection.
