Waste Collection

Collection Schedule

Residential garbage collection, like the Sanitary Landfill operation, is tendered out every 5 years.  Waste Services Inc., based out of Sherwood Park with a local office in Camrose, is the residential garbage collector under agreement with the City of Camrose (April 2005 - March 2010).

Click the image below to view the current garbage collection schedule.  This schedule is only to be used as a guide.  Waste Services Inc. occasionally changes these routes to better serve their customers.  Contact Waste Services Inc. to confirm your collection day.

Collection Schedule Map
Only the garbage from single-family dwellings, duplexes, and four-plexes is collected by Waste Services Inc..  Mobile home parks and multi-family dwellings (greater than four-plexes, such as apartment buildings) are not covered by the City of Camrose Waste Collection Contract so they must make other arrangements.

Waste Collection FAQs (Frequently Asked Questions)

What time does my garbage need to be out on the morning of my collection day?

All garbage needs to be placed out for collection by 7:45 a.m. on the morning of your collection day.

Where do I put out my garbage?

Truck 03 (124 KB) If your property is adjacent to a back (or side) lane, you need to place your garbage bags and trash containers as close to that lane as practical without causing a hindrance to any movement along the lane.  This will allow the garbage collector to have convenient access to your garbage.

What if my property does not have a back or a side lane?

If your property does not have a back (or side) lane, place your garbage containers and bags as near as possible to the roadway at the front of the property, without obstructing the sidewalk.  At the end of the day, you must remove your empty trash containers, so as to not leave an unsightly view for others.

Do I need to build stands for my trash containers?

Yes.  If you leave your full or empty trash containers outside (at the place of pickup) for more than just your collection day, you are required to provide a stand or an enclosure for your trash containers and/or bags.  If you only leave garbage bags or trash containers outside on your collection day, then you do not need to provide these stands / enclosures.  Click the pictures below to see some examples of proper enclosures / stands.

Last week, my garbage was not picked up when everyone else's garbage was taken by the garbage collector.  Also, there was a red tag placed beside my garbage.  Why did that happen?

Follow some simple rules and you won't ever see one of these! To protect the health and safety of the landfill, the environment, and the garbage collectors, the City has set some requirements on the garbage that you can put out on your collection day.  In addition to the City's requirements, the garbage collecting company (Waste Services Inc.) has developed some restrictions, also for the purpose of protecting human and environmental health and safety.  If any of these requirements have not been met, the garbage collector has no obligation to collect your trash.  There are a number of reasons for which your garbage might not have been collected on your collection day.  These include:
  • the garbage was not properly bundled or tied;
  • the garbage was loose (not properly packaged);
  • the receptacle (bag or trash can) was not placed adjacent to the land or curb;
  • the garbage container exceeded the weight or length limits (20 kg and 1 metre, respectively);
  • there were liquids present in the container; and
  • there was snow obstructing the access to receptacles.

In addition to these reasons, there can be other reasons why your garbage was not picked up.  For a more thorough list, contact Waste Services Inc. or the City of Camrose.

If you have any other questions please see the Waste Collection By-law.

Commercial / Industrial Garbage Collection

The City of Camrose is not responsible for the collection or disposal of any commercial, institutional or industrial garbage.  Neither is it responsible for the servicing of multi-family (greater than four-plexes) buildings or mobile home parks.  It is up to the individual business/industry owner or apartment/mobile home park manager to arrange for garbage collection and disposal.Opt Truck Dumping Waste at Landfill

Even though the City of Camrose does not directly collect and dispose of the garbage from commercial, industrial or institutional premises, it does regulate the collection and disposal of garbage from these premises.  (See the Waste Collection By-law for details).
