The treatment process begins before water reaches the Water Treatment Plant. As water enters the intake pipe at Dried Meat Lake, it is screened to remove debris that may block the pipe or plug up the pumps. The intake screens are located in the lake approximately 100m off shore. This location was chosen to maximize the depth of the intake (to insure it is below the ice level), and to be away from the shore line where the majority of algae blooms and weed growth occur.

City Water Intake City Water Intake (2001-2002) - before it was dropped through the ice to rest on the bottom of the lake.

The Lake Station Pump House pumps water from the intake out of the valley to the Collector Well Station. Water is pumped from Dried Meat lake to the Water Treatment Plant through a 600mm (24") water main.
