"In the next 3 years, Camrose should _________."
Over the first quarter of 2011, City Council undertook a strategic planning process in order to set the goals and priorities for the City for 2011-2015. On May 9, 2011, Council adopted the plan titled Going Forward: The Roadmap to 2015.
What is Strategic Planning? At the simplest level, strategic planning is the process of (1) understanding where you are, (2) determining where you want to be in the future, and (3) planning how to get there.
The City’s Municipal Sustainability Plan (the MSP), adopted by Council in 2010 sets out a vision of where we want to be in 2055 and beyond, and long term goals to get us there. We will use the MSP, which many citizens helped to shape, to guide the three-year strategic planning process.
The strategic planning process involves Council, Administration, and Citizens working together to chart a course for our future.
What’s happened so far?
Council Members, the City Manager and Department Heads met January 31 and February 1 to begin the planning process. We identified key external trends that could impact the City in the coming 3 – 5 years, and assessed our internal strengths and weaknesses. We confirmed our vision, mission and values. Together, we have identified five focus areas that, in addition to the five pillars of the Municipal Sustainability Plan (link), will guide the work of the Administration for the coming 3 – 5 years.
3 Community Conversations were held February 15 and 16 where citizens had a chance to provide feedback on the vision and proposed priority areas. An online survey which was available until February 28 also provided an opportunity to contribute online.
