Will It Smell?
A compost pile will not smell if it is turned often to allow air in.
If it does smell, the material may be too wet or has become packed too tightly.Some things you can do to reduce odors are:
Turn the compost pile often so that air gets in.
Add dry material such as leaves to help soak up extra moisture.
Be sure to cover food scraps with at least two centimeters of soil or compost.
Will the Compost Attract Pests?
If the compost is taken care of properly, it should not attract pests.
Some things you can do to discourage pests are: Cover the food waste with soil.
Do not add meat scraps or fat.
Put compost materials in a container that has a cover.
Can I Compost Weeds?
You should not put mature weeds in the compost heap because the seeds can begin to grow.
If the weeds are green and the seeds are not mature, they may be added.Can I Compost Grass Clippings?
Grass clippings should be left on the lawn after cutting. This returns nutrients to the soil.
