Who Owns the Landfill?

The Province of Alberta owns the land where the landfill is located. The provincial government has laws that protect the environment that must be followed. These laws ensure that the soil, water, and air, are kept as safe as possible.

The Camrose Regional Solid Waste Authority leases the land from the Province of Alberta.

The Camrose Regional Solid Waste Authority is a group of people that make decisions about waste management. It has representatives from
  • The City of Camrose
  • Camrose County
  • The Village of Bittern Lake
The Camrose Regional Solid Waste Authority hires a company to manage the landfill. This company must follow all the special laws that protect the environment. MCL Waste Systems Limited of Wetaskiwin operates the landfill now.
