Where does the garbage truck take the garbage?
When you put your garbage out, a garbage truck comes by and picks it up.
The garbage is loaded into the back of the garbage truck. The garbage is pressed very tightly so that the
garbage will take up less space. More garbage will fit into the truck when the garbage is pressed tightly.
Then the garbage truck travels to the Camrose Regional Sanitary Landfill.
The truck backs up into the pit. Then the back of the truck opens.
The back of the truck rises up.
The truck moves forward and the garbage comes out of the truck. Then the truck is empty and ready
to go pick up more garbage!
A caterpillar tractor is used to push the garbage into a thin layer.
Then the garbage is compressed with a heavy machine called a trash compactor. That way, the garbage takes up less space. This heavy machine is called a trash compactor.
Look carefully at the wheels of the compactor. The spokes on the wheels help to compress the garbage very, very tightly.
Then the garbage is covered with a layer of clay. The clay and garbage are packed tightly with the
trash compactor.
And that's how it works. Over and over again! A layer of garbage, and then a layer of clay! Then each layer is tightly packed with the trash compactor.
There is no limit to how high the garbage can be layered. There could be enough layers to make a mountain!
But eventually someone will decide that the pile is high enough, and no more layers of garbage will be put in that area. Then the area will be covered with a layer of clay and a thicker layer of good, black soil. Then grass, shrubs, and trees could be planted.
