About the CWGSP

The wildlife and greenspace in Camrose makes our city unique and beautiful. We enjoy the gifts greenspace provide, however, we must equally put the effort into conserving greenspace so that everyone can enjoy it for years to come.

The CWGSP stands for the Camrose Wildlife and Greenspace Stewardship Project. The supervisory committee hires a summer coordinator every summer to promote effective wildlife and greenspace management and to provide related interpretive programs for the community.

Each summer, we conduct a survey of Purple Martins, our flagship species. Every year, more breeding Purple Martin pairs are making Camrose their home. The majority of the more than 90 Purple Martin houses around the city are privately owned. Of these, the CWGSP has erected about ten specially-designed (and successful!) martin houses, each taken care of by dedicated community members. Stay tuned for how productive the nest boxes are next year. Make sure you search the sky for these beautiful songbirds!

Each summer, we offer a wildlife and greenspace education series. Please join us every Tuesday night at 7 pm at the Stoney Creek Centre for a lecture or walk on topics such as bats, snakes, songbirds, native flowers, and much more. You won’t want to miss out!

The CWGSP supports the City of Camrose initiative to prepare a Municipal Greenspace Plan, which is planned for the fall of 2007 and into 2008. We encourage you to become involved in this important planning process.
