2007 Emerald Awards
On Wednesday, June 6, the Alberta Emerald Award ceremonies took place at the Jack Singer Concert Hall in Calgary. The
Alberta Emerald Foundation recognizes advancements and achievements in environmental innovation and sustainability. The
concert hall was filled with outstanding Albertans who had contributed to the greater good of their communities, the
environment and to Alberta as a whole. Albertans are taking an outstanding first step in being leaders in ecological sustainability.
June 6th, 2007 was an evening to recognize the many Emerald Award finalists, of which the Camrose Wildlife and Greenspace
Stewardship Project was one. Our project will continue to work with the community in an effort to conserve and preserve
all that we hold dear. Congratulations to all of you who have participated and contributed to the project over the last
six years. We look forward to many more years of greenspace and wildlife stewardship within the community. Please visit
the Alberta Emerald Foundation website at www.emeraldawards.com for more details on the event.
Camrose Arbor Day – May 19, 2007
On Saturday, May 19, 2007, The Camrose Wildlife and Greenspace Stewardship Project (CWGSP) hosted Camrose's first Arbor
Day event. Community members joined the City of Camrose and the CWGSP in re-naturalizing the previously treed areas in
the Valley that had been removed during the 2006 construction on the sewer pipeline system.
We planted over 250 trees on Arbor Day and the City of Camrose Community Services Department has planted the remaining trees,
amounting to a total of 2500 trees planted in the Stoney Creek Valley. Next time you're walking in the valley, along the
Stoney Creek, just below the ski jump, make sure to look for the spruce, pine, willow and ash seedlings that were planted.
All trees were donated as part of a 'keeping Alberta green and beautiful’ initiative by The Tree Canada Foundation,
Strathcona County, Alberta Pacific Forest Industries, Shell Scotford Refinery, Edmonton Community Services and
Alberta Naturalization Network Society (ANNS).
We would like to thank all those involved in the event. Click to see more 2007 Arbor Day pictures, courtesy of Chris Clarkson.
