"Hole #9 Layout." The final hole on the South Nine at Camrose is the recently redesigned 505 yard Par 5 ninth. A $200,000 project designed by award winning Golf Course Architect Gary Browning, #9 is a classic in 'Heroic Golf Design'. Risk/Reward is the catch phrase on the 9th. Playing to a slightly rolling fairway, the bunker, 230 yards out on the right side, creates a stingy landing area opposite the trees for those who wish to lay up and "play it safe". If you manage the 255 yard carry over the right side bunker and slip past the left bunker at 280 yards, you are rewarded with a long iron shot to a green guarded by dense trees on the left and a pond that is just a mere 15 feet from the greens right edge. The safe play is to lay up to a generous landing area within 120 yards of the green that finds you in a pastoral setting still needing to negotiate the pond and the trees to get to the undulating green that awaits. Whether you play it safe or risk it all, the beautifully crafted 9th hole is a fitting finish to a subtly challenging front nine that rewards course management above brute strength.
