Who Are We?

Camrose EMS is an Advanced Life Support (ALS) ambulance service that employs paramedics and EMTs 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

In addition to our primary role of providing the highest level of emergency medical care possible, Camrose EMS plays an active role in the prevention and education of injury and illness.

As of December 2005, Camrose EMS has the ability to administer the clot busting drug TNK, for people who are having a heart attack. Evidence shows that the administration of TNK by prehospital personnel is an effective way of reducing morbidity and mortality from acute heart attack.

As of March 2007 we are now transporting all potential strokes to St Mary’s Hospital (SMH). Before this, all stroke patients were transported to Edmonton for treatment. St. Mary’s Hospital ER is currently equipped with video conferencing that enables neurologists from Edmonton and Dr.’s from Camrose to discuss potential treatments. The recent addition of a CT scanner at SMH has allowed for this level of treatment to be possible. Initial recognition of a possible stroke begins in the field by EMS providers. The stroke team is immediately contacted at SMH. This sets in motion the steps toward treatment of a stroke. Camrose EMS is an evolving service that continues to strive toward better patient care.
