Cat Control InformationAlthough the City does not have a cat control bylaw, there are some things that property owners can do to prevent un-wanted cats in your yard or flower beds. Some property owners have found that moth balls in flower beds do work. There are also numerous different types of cat repelling granule or spray products that are available in most hardware stores. Another consideration would be ultra sound repellers that could deter cats from going on to your property. Battery operated scat mats, which provides a small battery generated shock to an unwanted cat can also help to prevent cats from jumping on vehicles or going into areas where they are not welcome. Most cats don't like to be sprayed with water either. If a cat encounters one or more unpleasant action or smells it doesn't like it will tend to stay away from your property. The owner of the cat has a responsibility to keep their cat on their property, and if going outside placing a leash or harness on their pet to restrain it. They must also be responsible enough to vaccinate and neuter or spay their cat to prevent attracting stray cats into the area. Cat owners should be aware that cats can roam a lot further than dogs it is more difficult to control them however by not controlling these cats they may become prey to coyotes, foxes, owls, hawks and can be run over by vehicles. It takes everyone's help to control animals at large. Keeping your garbage in a container with a tight lid on it helps to keep unwanted animals from spreading garbage. While property owners can take steps to deter cats on their property, they should also be aware that they cannot, by law, do anything that is cruel to an animal. Hopefully some of this information has been helpful to you. |
