Airport Information
Camrose has been meeting the needs of the aviation community since the formation of the Camrose Flying Society and its first grass turf runway over 40 years ago. Since its foundation the Airport has undergone many changes to reach its current status as a 4,500ft paved lighted runway with 24 hour services. Over the years one thing has remained the same; the commitment to meeting the expanding needs of the community. The Camrose Airport strives to maintain a high level of service while keeping its lot lease rate and gas prices low. The Society leased a parcel of land 6km northwest of Camrose and developed the first turf airstrip in Camrose. Due to the high demand for the airport and zoning problems the airport was relocated in 1962 to its current location to the northeast of Camrose. In 1970, the City of Camrose took over operation of the airport and the runway was reconstructed so that it was 800m (2625 feet)long. At the same time an apron and taxiway were added. As part of a provincial incentive to improve aviation facilities throughout the province the runway was reoriented and paved by Alberta Transportation in 1976. A new terminal building was constructed in 1979, and runway lights and a fuel system were added. In 1982 provincial funding provided the airport with a NDB and in 1985 a DME was added through federal sponsorship. In 1994 a federal grant was obtained to extend the runway to 1372m (4500ft) and add a parallel taxiway. Over the years Camrose has been a popular instrument approaches training location for the military and various civilian training organizations. In 1988 Camrose hosted the Canadian Aerobatic team as it trained for the weeks leading up to the 14th World Aerobatic Championships in Red Deer. In spite of recent provincial funding cut backs the City of Camrose is committed to maintaining a first class airport facility. Make It HomeThe Camrose Airport was designed to accommodate future expansion. There are a wide variety of hangar lots available for lease offering many different services including electricity, natural gas, water and sewer. The hangar lot lease rate is one of the lowest in Central Alberta, at 10.2¢/ft2, making it very affordable. ![]() You are invited to base your aircraft at the Camrose Airport and enjoy both the benefits of the airport and the City of Camrose.
